Hey all, my name is Coyo, I'm interested in business and mathematics, and am here to learn about MMOs and what it takes to administer one.

I recently became interested in WoW, and am interested in server emulators mostly as an educational tool.

I want to learn what it takes to run a large MMORPG "realm" or world server.

In that vein, I would love to learn how to operate a arcemu server in order to learn more about MMOs from a development and administrative standpoint, as well as learn about linux and administration in general.

I have been planning on getting a linode or other vps for awhile now, and have been wondering what to do with it.

Now I know :D

I'm going to have trouble at first, simply because there is so much about linux server administration to know, and I'm still learning. But with a supportive community, I'm sure I can get something up and running so I can play with it and therefore learn about MMOs.

Welcome to Arcemu World!

Thanks! I'm really excited about playing with different server emulators and learning all about them.

This will be a valuable learning experience for my education.

projects such as ArcEmu will be extremely valuable for learning how to run an MMO.

Other projects I am interested in are: Aurora-RSSE, L2jserver, and open-aion.

My linode will probably host several worlds on the same mysql database, unless there is a conflict on a specific port, such as the webserver (which, after some research, it appears i need to have seperate ip addresses for each world so i have port 80 clear)

welcome to the learning experience :)

Well about the ports... just add one per world, 8129,8130 etc... and forward/open them ;)

Quote

edit the ascent-world.conf file for your second realm, and change the WorldServerPort to the port listed in Realm2.
