Hi,

This tutorial is more for advanced users.
It would be handy to use the str_replace function instead of using PHP's secure functions.

How?

SIMPLE!
example code:

$page = "/Hello/*/a/d/e/q/";
$final = str_replace("/","",$page); //THIS REPLACES the backslash '/' with empty space. in $page.
echo $final;

Untested but it should work.

Just to let people know, str_replace can be used for things like BBCode if you're making your own forums (example: search for [b] replace to <b>, etc...).

Another huge thing str_replace can do is forms. If a user puts a quotation mark it could potentially screw up the form action. With a str_replace you could find those quotation marks and replace them to \' or \" to negate the quotation mark's effect on the PHP.

yup that's right, i find this function usefull.

Also note that you have to use str_ireplace to replace anything with non-case sensitive characters.

$page = "[b]Text[/b]";
$final = str_replace("[b]","<strong>",$page);
$final2 = str_replace("[/b],"</strong>",$final);
echo $final2;

Lets say I want BBcode is that the right way?
Or something like

$page = "[b]Text[/b]";
$final = str_replace("[b]","<strong>",$page,"[/b]","</strong>");
echo $final;

Oh, by the way. Pingue was trying to do more than one replace using one function. If anyone is trying to do that, you can pass it through an array:

<?php
$search  = array('[b]', '[/b]');
$replace = array('<strong>', '</strong>');

$string = '[b]Parse me please![/b]';
echo str_replace($search, $replace, $string);

This would echo the HTML:

Quote

<strong>Parse me please!</strong>

Although for BBCode, regex would be a better way of parsing it ^^
