( Blizzlike Database Project )
( Supports version 3.3.5 )

Extra Informations:

IRC link:
IRC channel: #whydb

Team: [UDS]CYBERDEViL - Agmar - Black2754 - ClaudeNegm - MesoX - Sadikum

Something about WhyDB's history:
WhyDB's first commit came out 18th of April in 2008. There were 3 "founders" and developers of WhyDB (Cyberdevil, Agmar and DjHenghiz). WhyDB was based on old NCDB, with many custom blizzlike fixes. It become very good and well-known database project soon. But what about name? Are you asking yourself why Why? That's because when whyDB started, there were no active database. Idea of 'Why' came from mind with question 'Why did every big active database development team died?'. Then Cyberdevil decided to make his own database project, which will never die. Few months later, after many successful fixes, it was time to look up for new developers. Cyberdevil was friend with administrator of 1 big server, running Ascent and their own DB, which was called Yelly DB (Yelly started 2 days later then WhyDB - but was many times more active, with fully custom blizzlike DB). They decided to merge projects into 1 called WhyDB (as Yelly developers did not have as much time as they wanted to have). Then only 1 developer joined WhyDB called MesoX. He became third Project leader with Cyberdevil and Agmar. From that time, there were many developers which came and left this database project, but this process let us have few best DB developers around, which are still active these days and doing many nice fixes.

Why use WhyDB?
We are not only supporting our DB, we are also trying to help and update ArcEmu with our patches, to make it more functiolnal. Also our datas cames mostly from sniffs or caches directly from blizzard.

How can DB users help developers?
  • Reporting bugs
  • Making their own fixes and posting them on forums
  • Posting on forums their blizzlike Cache files
  • Recruiting more friends to use/support WhyDB

How WhyDB gathers datas?
There are 4 main ways how to get needed datas, ordered from most used to less used.
  • Sniffing retail packets and getting datas from them
  • Converting users' and developers' cache files
  • Checking webpages like wowwiki, wowhead etc.
  • Gathering datas from other blizzlike databases

We want to not use 2 last ways, but we are in lack of cache files and retail account, which we can use, that's why are sometimes using other databases as source info.

How can I download WhyDB?
Follow instructions on our forums. If you can't download files from our SVN, checkout Announcements forum and find there proper link to download newest WhyDB from

What about references for WhyDB?
As we are there for a long time, you can find our references everywhere, just with using Google or checking number of downloads on Filebeam by searching 'WhyDB' there.
